Scholarship Program

The Mary Johnston College of Nursing Scholarship Foundation, Inc. (MJCNSF, Inc.) provides ongoing support for the growth and advancement of the PCU-Mary Johnston College of Nursing (MJCN). The foundation’s mission is to strengthen MJCN’s commitment to delivering high-quality nursing education in the Philippines and contribute to the development of skilled, compassionate, and dedicated nursing professionals.

At the heart of MJCNSF, Inc.'s initiatives is its scholarship program, designed to support academically exceptional high school graduates facing financial challenges. This program offers full coverage of tuition and/or dormitory fees, allowing students to focus on their studies without the burden of financial stress. Scholarship recipients are selected through a rigorous process to ensure fairness and equal opportunity. Continuation of the scholarship is contingent upon the student’s consistent academic performance and commitment to meeting the standards set by the Scholarship Committee, fostering sustained academic excellence.

In addition to the core scholarship program, MJCNSF, Inc. oversees several memorial scholarship funds established to honor the legacies of influential individuals who contributed significantly to nursing education. The Remedios C. Santiago (RCS) Memorial Scholarship, the Erlinda R. Punongbayan (ERP) Memorial Scholarship, and the Rebecca Bernardez-Gonzaga (RBG) Memorial Scholarship are key components of this initiative. These programs offer specialized support to students with leadership potential, those seeking mentorship, and those committed to innovation in healthcare.

Through these scholarship programs and memorial funds, MJCNSF, Inc. ensures that deserving students gain access to quality nursing education, empowering them to achieve their goals and make meaningful contributions to the healthcare sector. By supporting academically promising students with financial need, the foundation plays a crucial role in developing future nurses who will serve God and His people with competence, compassion, and dedication.

Program Objectives:

Financial Assistance: Provide financial support, including tuition fees and/or dormitory expenses, to nursing students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to pursue their education without financial barriers.
Educational Resources: Offer access to essential educational materials such as textbooks, library resources, and online learning tools, enhancing students' academic experience and fostering their growth as future healthcare professionals.
Clinical Duty Exposure: Facilitate clinical internships and placements in hospitals, communities, and healthcare facilities, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and apply their learning in real-world settings.
Nursing Excellence: Promote the development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes in nursing, focusing on cultivating compassionate, competent, and servant leaders committed to serving God and society.
Leadership and Innovation: Support the growth of future nursing leaders by nurturing leadership qualities, innovation, and a commitment to advancing healthcare practices, in alignment with the values established by the memorial scholarships.

How to Apply

Student pplicants must meet specific requirements to be considered for the scholarship. They should have a strong academic record and demonstrate the potential for continued academic success. In addition, applicants must provide documentation showing financial need, including family income statements and any other relevant financial information. Furthermore, applicants must show a genuine interest in pursuing a career in nursing and express a commitment to serving their communities and God.

To apply, students must submit several documents. These include a Letter of Intent, which is a personal statement outlining the applicant’s goals, aspirations, and reasons for pursuing a nursing degree. Official academic records from Senior High School, or a Transcript of Records, must also be provided. A Birth Certificate is required as proof of age and citizenship. Applicants must submit financial documents such as their parents' latest Income Tax Return or Employment Contract/Salary Statement. Additionally, Letters of Recommendation from the school Principal or Adviser and/or from the church Pastor or Deaconess (if applicable) must be included.

Interested students must submit a completed application form along with the required documents to mjcnsf@gmail.com. Once applications are received, they will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee, which will evaluate each applicant’s academic performance, financial need, and overall suitability for the scholarship. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview to further assess their qualifications and commitment to nursing. Successful applicants will be notified of their award and will receive further instructions for enrollment and scholarship utilization.

Supporting Memorial Scholarship Funds under MJCNSF Scholarship Program:

A. Remedios C. Santiago (RCS) Memorial Scholarship Program

The Remedios C. Santiago (RCS) Memorial Scholarship Program is a professional and financial support initiative established and funded by the Canadian alumni group in honor of Dean Emeritus Remedios C. Santiago, fondly known as Ms. S. She was a respected professor, historian, and church leader of the United Methodist Church, whose dedication to nursing education and the church left a lasting legacy.

Purpose: This scholarship provides financial assistance to deserving PCU-MJCN nursing students, particularly those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, to help them complete their nursing education.

The increasing demand for qualified healthcare professionals highlights the importance of investing in the future of nurses. Supporting nursing students through mentorship and financial aid contributes to building a stronger healthcare workforce. By partnering in this program through mentorship and financial support, individuals can help transform lives and uplift communities.

B. Erlinda R. Punongbayan (ERP) Memorial Scholarship

The Erlinda R. Punongbayan (ERP) Memorial Scholarship Program is a professional and financial support initiative dedicated to mentoring and assisting aspiring nurses. It honors the legacy of Ms. Erlinda R. Punongbayan, fondly known as Miss P, who was a nurse, teacher, mentor, leader, spiritual adviser, and friend. Ms. P inspired many through her emotional connectedness and unwavering dedication to nursing, encouraging students and colleagues to become competent nurses devoted to serving God and His people.

Purpose: This scholarship provides mentorship and financial assistance to deserving PCU-MJCN nursing students, helping them become compassionate and skilled healthcare professionals.

C. Rebecca Bernardez-Gonzaga (RBG) Memorial Scholarship Program

The Rebecca Bernardez-Gonzaga (RBG) Memorial Scholarship Program was established by Barbara Verzosa in honor of her twin sister, Rebecca Bernardez-Gonzaga. This program is dedicated to supporting nursing students at PCU-Mary Johnston College of Nursing who demonstrate leadership potential and a commitment to innovation in healthcare, with a special focus on those from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.

Purpose: This scholarship provides financial assistance, primarily through tuition fee coverage, to empower future nurses to develop leadership skills and introduce innovative solutions in the healthcare field.

The growing need for visionary and dynamic healthcare leaders highlights the importance of supporting nursing students who aspire to drive innovation and improvement in patient care. Pintong Pamana Project:

Student and Alumni/Guest Rooms

The Dormitory Room Improvement Initiative is dedicated to enhancing the living and learning environments for our PCU-MJCN nursing students and faculty. The MJCNSF believes that improving these surroundings will enable more effective concentration on their studies, facilitating the achievement of their academic goals.

Additionally, our alumni and guest rooms will offer a welcoming haven for former graduates and visitors, providing a space to reconnect and reflect on their valuable memories at PCU-MJCN during their college years.

Pintong Pamana 2.0: Bedsteads & Tables

Project 2.0 focuses on upgrading the bedsteads and tables in our dormitory rooms. This initiative is dedicated to enriching the living and learning environments for our PCU-MJCN nursing students and faculty. The MJCNSF recognizes that quality sleep is essential for caregivers, as this physiological need equips them to face the challenges of their dedication to nursing. Moreover, MJCNSF is committed to creating a space where they can thrive academically and achieve their goals with enhanced comfort and functionality.

Infrastructure & Restoration Project

The Infrastructure and Restoration Initiative is dedicated to enhancing the aesthetic and comfort of our school and dormitory spaces. This initiative includes, but is not limited to, classroom renovations, state-of-the-art skills learning technology, restoration of wooden antiques and memorabilia, and revitalizing the iconic spaces and beauty of the PCU-MJCN campus. The MJCNSF believes that everything has value and purpose, impacting the lives of graduates and current students in various meaningful ways.

Javalera Legacy Project

Mary Johnston College of Nursing Scholarship Foundation, Inc. unveils the Javalera Legacy Project, a visionary initiative by Engr. Francis Javalera Sy-Changco, the Javalera Family, and Bataan Manufacturing Company, Inc. Designed to enhance the educational experience of our PCU-MJCN nursing students, this project will create a state-of-the-art nursing skills laboratory equipped with top-notch instruments, machines, and supplies. By providing a cutting-edge learning environment, we aim to prepare our students to deliver exceptional patient care in service to God's people.

Nursing Library Revival Project

This project targets the revival of our nursing library, crucial for PCU-MJCN students' academic progress. Outdated materials hinder access to current nursing literature, necessitating immediate replacement and enhancement. Through resource updates and improved access, we aim to foster competent nurses, empower student success, and elevate nursing education standards.

Church and Community Outreach Program

The Training and Assistance Program in Self-Reliance (TAPS) project was envisioned by Dean Emeritus Remedios C. Santiago in 1981, responding to the economic crisis affecting local neighborhoods, aimed to empower communities in actively promoting their health and wellness. With support from PCU-MJCN graduates and health partners, we firmly believe that this initiative will serve as a blueprint to cultivate self-reliance and community direction by meticulously selecting participants and beneficiaries based on proximity, area size, and community acceptance.
